We promote human health and environmental integrity
We believe family and small-holder farms are the key to ensuring global food security and environmental sustainability. We can use our labor more intensively and better manage our resources than larger farms, making us well-positioned to uphold global natural resource management and environmental integrity, rather than degrading it. We can also more easily incorporate organic practices that enhance human health.
We are focused on a key challenge facing our global community. With a world population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050: How do we meet the food and nutrition needs of a growing population, without compromising human health or sacrificing the environmental integrity of local landscapes and the global environment?
Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Mighty Thundercloud Edible Forest is managed as a sustainable ecosystem that builds life into its 7.5 acres of soil. Our management practices build soil fertility and enhance biodiversity, while aiming to reduce our environmental footprint. Our strategy is to avoid the use of toxic chemicals (i.e. - synthetic fertilizers and pesticides) and replace them with internal ecological controls and organic practices.
The outcome is high yields of healthy and tasty food that help strengthen our community and enhance household-level nutrition.
